Areola Reduction
What is Areola Reduction
The areola is the brown/pink, circular area around the nipple. Many women are happy with the size and shape of the breasts but find their areolas to large or misshapen. An areola reduction is the answer to correct the shape of the areola.
Surgery
The surgery is conducted under general anaesthetic. During the procedure, your surgeon will reshape the areola by removing the excess skin. Absorbable stitches are then used to secure the skin and sometimes deep, permanent stitches are used to prevent stretching of the skin and areola after surgery. The surgery will take place at one of our specialist private hospitals by a fully registered cosmetic surgeon.
Later Progress
After surgery, you may feel bruised and sore but this will subside over coming weeks. We normally recommend people to take about a week off from work to recover from the surgery. At Nu Cosmetic, we offer lifetime after guarantee to all our customers to ensure that you have complete peace of mind. Clickhere to know more about our lifetime aftercare policy.

How long does the procedure take?
Depending on the complexity of the procedure, the surgery normally takes about 90 minutes, not including time in recovery.
Are the results permanent?
Yes, the results of areola reduction are permanent. If you gain a substantial amount of weight, or you have a baby, your breasts and therefore nipples may change shape, however they will always be smaller/ have a better shape than they would have been if you had not had the surgery.
When can I go back to normal day-to-day activities?
We recommend that people take a week off work following the procedure (more if your job is particularly physical). Strenuous activities, heavy lifting and intense exercise should be avoided for about 6 weeks after your surgery.
Are there any alternatives to this surgery?
No, the only way to reduce the size, or change the shape of your nipples is by surgery.
Can I combine this procedure with other surgery?
Yes, you can combine this procedure with other breast or body surgeries. You can discuss this in full at your free consultation.
Will I have altered sensation in the area?
Whenever skin is cut, nerves are also cut; this may result in altered sensation to the area, particularly at the incision site. All care will be taken to maintain sensation as much as possible.
What weight should I be for surgery?
You should be at a healthy weight for your height when you have surgery as this lowers risks related to anaesthetic. For the best aesthetic results, we recommend that you are at your ideal weight at the time of surgery as further weight loss or gain can change the results of your surgery.
When can I fly after the procedure?
You should check with your surgeon regarding safe timings of air travel following your surgery. Many airlines have their own protocols and you should inform your travel insurance company if you have had recent surgery.
Am I too young/ too old for this procedure?
All clients must be at least 18 years of age to have surgery. We do not set an upper age limit for our procedures, suitability for surgery will be discussed at your free consultation with your surgeon.
